No fuss Bread!!

For the longest time, I have wanted to bake my own bread. Most bread recipes are pretty daunting, especially the bit about kneading the life out of the dough. I cannot even manage to knead my chapatti dough properly, so I knew I would not be able to do it (the nick is couchpapaya for a reason).

So, when I came across this no knead baguette recipe, I knew I was going to try it out. And, if you missed it, I'll say it again it's NO KNEAD people! The best part about this recipe is it's so so so easy to put together. It took literally 5 minutes for me to assemble the dough last night, a few minutes of prep work today and voila - two perfectly airy, crusty baguettes in time for dinner. I put olives on one as shown on the blog and sprinkled some dry oregano on the tomato one. Delicious!!! I've also frozen half the batch to see if I can make them as needed during the week.

I'm so excited about this bread I'm off to Amazon to buy the book this recipe came from My Bread: The Revolutionary No-Work, No-Knead Method by Jim Lahey. I foresee a lot of pizzas, foccacias and sandwich bread being baked in the PapayaHousehold in the near future. I've never been happier :)

Looks divine. And you make it all sound so simple. I am sure, if I begin to make it, I can find many a loophole to turn it into a flop ;)

BTw, wish you a very happy new year

you are a cook, lady.take a bow.the bread looks perfect. baguettes are meant to be soft? i thought they were slightly tough and crusty, not that i know anything much about this at all. saw julie and julia and loved the film.btw, what did you make of avatar?

This is excellent, thanks for including the links as well. My children have made pizza from that store-bought pizza dough mentioned, but did not know that baguettes could be made as well.
Will certainly try this out, and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Avdi - Enjoy!! There's nothing like the smell of fresh bread baking to put everyone at home in a great mood :)

WIAN - Thanks! Wishing you the same too!! Hey, flops are relative. We dont let food get wasted in my house, which means even if it tastes bad it's going to get eaten. If it's eaten, it's not a flop :) I'm sure B secretly wishes I dont experiment so much!! But cooking bores me, so I have to keep trying new things otherwise we'd never get any food at home :P

Yword - Thanks, tho you can see the olives falling off the baguette, so there's always something lacking in the execution :) They're not meant to be soft. By airy, I meant the holey insides that baguettes should have. We were snowed in the day we planned to watch :( I hope we can make it this weekend ... stupid snow! Happy NY to you and your family!!

Samir - Sure thing! I'm hoping the reverse works out, I still have batches of the dough so I'm going to try making pizzas at some point (knowing me, I'll probably get impatient before the book gets to me). Enjoy!! Happy NY to you and your family too!!

Bubbles - Yup! Even though my arms could use a workout, this recipe totally speaks to me. Fast, easy and perfect for the lazy cook :)

Smita - I dont bake cookies much but I have a couple of recipes bookmarked. What kind were you thinking of? Here are some from my favorite chefs online - the best part is all are relatively low fat recipes.

Nikkis Healthy Cookies - http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/nikkis-healthy-cookies-recipe.html

Triple Chocolate Cookies - http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/triple-chocolate-cookies-recipe/index.html

Nut and Seed Biscotti - http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/nut-and-seed-biscotti-recipe.html

I've made the biscotti with chapatti atta and they were delicious but they're not traditional cookies. Let me know if you try any of them!!
